We encountered many challenges along the way, but must emphasise our commitment to reflecting the brand’s values. Our principle goal was to create a warm and comfortable space while maintaining the industrial shell with its heights, factory windows and exposed ceilings. Another clear objective was to showcase the client’s time-honoured methods of cooking over charcoal. Making use of the brand’s colour and making the space highly functional and versatile presented further challenges and were shaping factors in the design process.

We were inspired by the brand’s three pillars: coal, wood and smoke. The space’s design is reminiscent of an essence container, with the hot coals being the main protagonist, and to which we added a touch of sophistication. The main wall can be seen through the glass and serves as a background showcase. The warm-toned panels resemble a giant game of Connect Four and make use of the brand’s letters.
The project delivers on its principles, combining craftsmanship with sophistication. The locale is decorated in shades of ash and with materials that evoke the countryside and the industrial sector. Having designed an environment with multiple spaces that are both functional and versatile, the end result is a place of great warmth where clients can enjoy a mouthwatering range of gastronomy.
Winner of the “Surface Interior” category in the 2019 International “Restaurant and Bar Design awards” held in London. Sophie Grove, judge and senior correspondent at Monocle magazine, commented: ‘This strikes a good balance between comfort, warmth, conviviality but also a slick wall-down aesthetic. Big fan of cane furniture in this scheme.
It’s a fresh take on a burger joint which so often uses the same traits.’
We were finalists in two other categories at the same awards: Lighting Design and Best Restaurant Europe.
